Most dental providers have broad sweeping questions concerning asthma on their health history. In the next few articles we will address the significant factors that must be addressed to properly manage an asthmatic patient. These include the presence of comprehensive questions regarding the state of your patient’s asthma, an assessment of the effect your dental treatment will have on the patient’s asthma and oral manifestations of long term use of bronchodilators. Before we begin this series, have a copy of your current medical history by your side. Your questions may serve your needs, but most often, the histories purchased from most software companies are woefully inadequate. With a small amount of insight and foresight, you can design a medical questionnaire that will extract much more specific information from your patient. This will lead to a far better understanding of your patient’s asthma.
